A readable and exciting mystery novel set in an industrial town in the second half of the 19th century. The main character Sara escapes from her alcoholic pastor father, and comes to town, having seen an advertisement for a journalist job in the press of Joseph Glass, a liberal businessman and newspaper editor People's Voice.
As this is his fourth novel to have won the Daniel Owen Memorial Prize as far back as 2008, Ifan Morgan Jones can hardly be described as a 'promising young writer'. Yet the freshness and novelty of this work raises the desire to do so.
